Our Story

How RH Borden got started

Partnering with RH Borden: Introduction
2:00 · YouTube

RH Borden and Company LLC is the leading service provider for new technologies used in wastewater collection system maintenance. We are the Authorized Service Provider for the southern and western United States for Acoustic Assessments using the Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT®), and the provider of I&I detection through our proprietary BASINiQ sensor network analysis, along with Manhole Virtual Modeling (MVM) for municipalities nationwide.

Our work began in 2018, when we started using acoustic assessment technology to identify blockages in wastewater collection system pipes, replacing routine, calendar-based cleaning with cleaning that responds to actual pipe condition. Since then, we’ve expanded into dense sensor networks that locate inflow and infiltration sources to within a couple hundred feet, and into LiDAR-based digital twins that give municipalities a precise, structural view of every manhole in their system.

RH Borden believes the future of cities is smart cities, and that technology and data provide a better way to manage infrastructure assets and allocate limited resources. Our goal is simple: help cities and municipalities use new technology and real data to optimize maintenance and maximize the performance of their collection systems.

What Makes Us Different

Measurable data, not assumptions

01

We quantify, not just inspect

Traditional CCTV and smoke testing find defects but rarely measure how much water each one actually contributes. Our sensor networks measure real flow, so repairs are ranked by impact, not by convenience.

02

We’re a service provider, not a manufacturer

We deploy proven, purpose-built hardware from partners like Grundfos inside our own BASINiQ and condition-based maintenance programs, so municipalities get engineering expertise, not just equipment.

03

We scale from one basin to a whole system

A single-dashboard approach lets us manage hundreds, and eventually thousands, of sensors at once, so a program can start small at known hotspots and expand as the data proves its value.

What people are saying about RH Borden’s services

City of Salem logo

James Thomas
“Due to the success of acoustic assessments in our city, we are in the process of updating our SSMP to incorporate this into our annual plan for collection system maintenance.”
★★★★★

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about RH Borden

What is BASINiQ?+

BASINiQ is RH Borden’s proprietary inflow and infiltration (I&I) location service. It uses a dense network of radar-based level sensors placed throughout a sewer collection system to identify, within a couple hundred feet, exactly where excess groundwater or stormwater is entering the system.

Is RH Borden a sensor manufacturer or a service provider?+

RH Borden is a service provider, not a manufacturer. The company is the Authorized Service Provider for SL-RAT acoustic assessment technology across the southern and western United States, and deploys sensors manufactured by partners like Grundfos as part of its own BASINiQ and condition-based maintenance programs.

What areas does RH Borden serve?+

RH Borden serves municipalities across the United States, with dedicated regional account managers covering Colorado, Northern and Southern California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington.

How is RH Borden different from traditional CCTV or smoke testing providers?+

Traditional methods like CCTV and smoke testing identify structural defects but rarely quantify how much water each defect actually contributes. RH Borden’s sensor-based approach measures real flow data continuously, letting municipalities prioritize repairs by measurable impact rather than by guesswork.

How long has RH Borden been developing smart sewer technology?+

RH Borden has been developing smart sewer solutions since 2018, beginning with acoustic assessment technology to identify blockages, and has since expanded into I&I sensor networks and manhole digital twin modeling.
